Joy Emmanuel
Test Joy Emmanuel is the Principal of Turning Times Research and Consulting. For over 25 years, she has been working with co-operatives, non-profits and community organizations as a researcher, project manager, co-operative developer, consultant, board member and manager. Joy is former Research Director of the BC Institute for Co-operative Studies (BCICS) which was located at the University of Victoria. She later went on to complete an advanced course in Co-operative Development and the SFU certificate program in Community Economic Development. She presently offers a Continuing Studies course at Camosun College in Victoria on how to start a co-operative business. (See Home page for information on how to register.) Joy was the first Executive Director of Cowichan Housing Association, a non-profit society focused on housing and homelessness prevention which she helped to incorporate. As a community researcher Joy has worked on many projects over the years. In 2017, she was contracted to undertake two Point-in-Time homeless counts in the Cowichan Valley. Joy has served on the board of seven co-operatives and on the Research Advisory Committee of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network. She presently serves on the board of CoopZone – the Canadian co-op developers association. She also sits on the board of a local housing association and is a director of the Canadian Rights and Freedom Centre. Joy has a Master’s degree in Sociology and was a part-time lecturer at both Saint Mary’s and Acadia universities from 1992 to 2004.
