Marketing Coordinator - The Coop la Maison verte
The Coop la Maison verte is seeking a motivated and experienced individual for the position of Marketing Coordinator.
The Coop la Maison verte is a community-based co-operative that offers ecological solutions for the home as well as resources for responsible consumption. It is the first environmental solidarity co-op in Canada. We operate a friendly store and café in the Montréal borough of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG). Founded in 1999, today we are over 9,000 members strong and offer more than 1,000 ecological, organic and fair trade products.
The Marketing Coordinator oversees the marketing of all inventory items and supports the Store Coordinator in ensuring the proper functioning of the store and café. S/he is also responsible for the implementation of an annual marketing plan.
The Marketing Coordinator collaborates with the other coordinators through the Coordinator Committee (CC) to ensure seamless operations of the store and the harmonization of marketing, purchasing, HR, financial and administrative activities (see annexed CC description).
The Marketing Coordinator is expected to participate in the day-to-day operations of the store. This includes providing professional, courteous and speedy service to Coop customers, explaining membership to potential members, serving coffee and working at the cash register. All Coordinators also mentor staff who express interest in additional tasks and encourage them to participate more in the organization of work.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and Coordinators Committee, the Marketing Coordinator is responsible for following:
Communications and Public Relations:
- Producing the Coop newsletter on a regular basis;
- Reviewing format on regular basis to ensure that reach is optimized
increase the activity level of Coop websites and social media sites;
- Organizing internal events and participating in external events that attract current and new members;
- Promoting the Coop in the community and reaching out to others to grow our member base and visibility;
- Acting as contact person for media & public relations;
- Maintaining and updating product support materials, such as presentations and binders.
Marketing:
- Overseeing all product placement for marketing and theft prevention;
- Ensuring cleanliness of store and the inventory;
- Developing and implementing the Coop marketing plan (use of communication tools including, but not limited to, the Coop website and bulletin, social networking sites, as well as traditional print and television media);
- Populating and curating the online store, website & managing online sales.
Sales:
- Developing and growing clientele for the online store & bulletin ad space;
- Promoting the cooperative's products and services to enterprises
- Exploring other avenues for Coop development & sales;
- Contributing to the selection of new products and elimination of under-performing products.
- Collaborating with Co-op Coordinators to increase store traffic and hit sales objectives
Customer Relations:
- Serving customers of the store via phone, emails (primarily responsible for info@cooplamaisonverte.com emails and boutique@cooplamaisonverte.com), and at the cash;
- Directing staff to maintain best customer service practices.
Coordinators Committee:
- Participating in weekly CC meetings to determine short- and long-term goals and priorities as well as special projects.
Required Job Qualifications
- A post-secondary degree in Sales, Marketing, Communications or Business Administration or the equivalent number of years of job experience in a relevant field;
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and French.
Additional qualifications include:
- Knowledge of marketing strategies and customer relationship management;
- Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Demonstrated IT abilities with word processing, graphic design and Internet software (website upkeep, social media strategies, etc.);
- Ability to work well independently and as a team member.
Experience conducting community outreach and workshop facilitation and knowledge of Cooperatives are not required but complement the above qualifications.
Work schedule and salary
32 hours/week (1 year contract with possibility of renewal) with the equivalent of 4 weeks vacation. Starting salary $14.50/hr
